Onegai shimasu ... arigato gozaimashita

Different words mean different things to different people. Some are so cliched or stereotyped it needs further clarification to understand which context they are being used in.

Onegai shimasu to me means ... May i begin my experience in learning, may i have the pleasure of your interaction so we both can learn ... may we start our lesson now ....

Osu to me means ... i am now beginning to appreciate... to understand ... mmm i see now what you mean ....

Shomeni rei: to the front, to the job at hand i face with undivided focus and concentration, my utmost respect to all my fellow trainees, my most revered respect and appreciation for the Dojo i am in and its affiliations ... To the founder, Kancho and all my sempais i bow with the deepest honour and respect ...

Sensei ni rei: my undivided loyalty, trust, respect and honesty to my Sensei, listening and mirroring him, giving him my 100% body, mind and soul. Also invoking the student-sensei in me to open ... to learn and accept with a willing mind and hungry soul. Sensei is teaching me how to dig for myself, how to teach myself, discover for myself as he provides the spade for digging ... making sure i carry on digging deep ... and not all over the place.

Arigato Gozaimashita ... thank you very much for partnering with me, for training with me, ... for giving me helpful, constructive tips to further my development in Aikido ...

The list of course is inexhaustible and their meanings will further grow as time goes on ...

Just as training/partnering with different ukes or shites have different feels and even verbal tips ... using different words to illustrate can further bring my thinking outside of the box ... so my thinking can be more lateral ... my understanding can be more enriched and broadened...

Also training with different partners enable me to feel their ki/energy, their moods, their techniques, their fast/slow movements ... feel ... feel ... connect ... connect ... be one with the shite and be one with the uke ... harmonise ... circle in ... circle out ... (regardless of what state i am in eg: tired, exhausted or ready or not ready ...)

Osu and arigato gozaimashita.
